Program Notes

"Enchanted Rock" is inspired by the ancient natural dome of the same name in central Texas.  This peculiar, mystical place has been a source of mystery and tales for centuries.  My own favorite story is that of the Spanish priest who became lost on the dome and fell into a crevasse that - he later claimed - was a portal to spirit realm.  This work is a study for a larger project on that theme.  

 

The work is dedicated to percussionist Carlos Camacho for whom it was written.
